Candidates for the University and Freshman soccer teams met in the Assembly Room of the Union yesterday afternoon. Owing to the illness of Coach Burgess, Captain Byng outlined the work of the coming season and also spoke briefly about the way the game is played.

There will be a short season of five weeks during which the University team will play five intercollegiate games, besides several games with local teams, whose dates are not yet settled. While only eleven can play on a team, there is an opportunity for every man who comes out, since practically every position is open. Beginning next Monday, all candidates are expected to take some form of exercise, especially aiming to develop the wind. Regular practice will not begin, however, until the snow is off the ground, and Soldiers Field is in good condition. All men out for the team are expected to be regular and careful in their diet, although the regular training table will not start until just before the intercollegiate games.

Captain Byng outlined the method of playing soccer, and emphasized the fact that speedy men are wanted for the forward positions.
