Review of Engineering Magazine

By Professor H. E. clifford.

The November issue of the Harvard Engineering Journal appeared promptly on November 1. It is attractive in appearance, and noteworthy in material. The initial article on "The Rotary Valve Motor" is timely in view of the rapid development now taking place in the automobile industry. The cuts illustrating this article are particularly well done.

An article on the Pedro Miguel Locks of the Panama Canal contains a valuable table of detailed costs for concrete in place. An interesting article on the Chemistry of Cement likewise appears in this number.

The technical portion of this issue is largely devoted to matters which more particularly interest the civil engineer. The Diversion Works for the Arrowrock Dam, which when complete, will be the highest dam in the world, and The improvement of the Neponset River are important from a hydraulic and sanitary engineering point of view respectively.

The editorial section contains an admirably selected fund of information showing, among other interesting facts, the important service to the community at large, which is being rendered by the staff of the School of Engineering at Harvard University.
