WORK OF VARIOUS CREWS

After the three weeks of practice which the University crews have had this fall, the prospect of success in rowing next spring is very bright. An unusual amount of sickness has considerably retarded progress, but with the return of Meyer and Morgan the first crew has now its entire strength. The second and third crews are much further advanced than at this time in previous years, and offer a large supply of able substitutes.

Several important changes have been made in the orders of the crews the past few days. Meyer has taken his old position at 2 in the first shell, Trumbull being shifted from 2 to 6, while Harwood was returned to his former position of stroke on the second. Morgan has taken his place at 7 in the first shell, L. Curtis going to 7 in the second. Carver, who has been rowing 7 on the second, has been shifted to 3, Apollonio going to 7 in the third shell. Saltonstall has displaced C. Weston at 5 in the second and the latter is now rowing 5 in the third boat. Fuller has exchanged places with E. Curtis at 2 on the second, Curtis going to 2 in the third.

These changes have been made after careful consideration of the merits of the men as displayed by their rowing this fall, and there will probably be few, if any, more alterations.

The orders in which the crews are rowing are as follows:

First.--Stroke, Pirnie; 7, E. Morgan; 6, Trumbull; 5, Mills; 4, Goodale; 3, Stratton; 2, Meyer; bow, Reynolds; cox., Abeles.

Second.--Stroke, Harwood; 7, L. Curtis; 6, MacVicar; 5, Saltonstall; 4, Cutler; 3, Carver; 2, Fuller; bow, Storrow; cox., Gallaher.

Third.--Stroke, Lothrop; 7, Apollonio; 6, J. Morgan; 5, Weston; 4, Wolf; 3, Hubbard; 2, E. Curtis; bow, Chadwick; cox., Munro.

The fall race between the three University crews will take place over the two-mile course in the Basin on November 1. Strict training in preparation for these races began yesterday.

Freshmen Lack Experienced Material.

The Freshman crews also are progressing well, although there is a dearth of experienced material. The positions on these crews are as yet quite uncertain. Yesterday the first Freshman crew was composed as follows: stroke, Wilson; 7, Potter; 6, Boyer; 5, Shall; 4, Jeffries; 3, Herrick; 2, Boydon; bow, Baldwin; cox., Sargent.

The annual fall bumping races will take place the week of November 4, probably on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The six dormitory crews are developing well in preparation for these races, but it is to be much regretted that there are so few of them. In the finals of the bumping races, the third, fourth, and fifth Freshman crews will take part.
