FIRST TEAM SCORED TWICE

The University football team played the second team in a short scrimmage yesterday afternoon and won by a score of two touchdowns to nothing. During the half hour of scrimmage, the University team was placed on the defensive most of the time against plays such as are expected to be used by Brown and Princeton. The remainder of the afternoon was used for signal practice and the perfection of defensive formations. The first touchdown came only a few minutes after the scrimmage began. The second team had been given the ball in mid-field and had tried several unsuccessful plays to break through the University forwards. Another plunge was called for, but the ball was fumbled. Brickley scooped it up and ran 40 yards to the goal-line, with nobody near him. The seconds were again given the ball but an attempted forward pass landed in Coolidge's arms and gave the University team the ball in the centre of the field. Short gains by Brickley and Lingard, a 20-yard run by Hardwick, and a final plunge by Brickley brought the second score. No attempt was made to kick a goal from either touchdown.

Graustein, Handy, and Freedley have been taken up from the second team squad, and Driscoll has recovered from the shoulder injury which he received in the Holy Cross game.
