Garber Privately Tells Faculty That Harvard Must Rethink Messaging After GOP Victory
The University football team went down to defeat in a long, hard scrimmage yesterday afternoon, and, as a result, the second team will have no practice today, instead being permitted to go to the world's championship baseball game. The score yesterday after an hour's steady work was 12 to 6 in favor of the scrubs. The scrimmaging was faster than any that has been seen in practice this year and it was only in the last few minutes that the Varsity succeeded in scoring at all.
The second team made its first touchdown after carrying the ball by straight football from the middle of the field to the 25-yard line. Then a forward pass from Blake to Handy placed the ball on the 10-yard line with first down. The final 10 yards were covered by Graustein on a plunge through the right side of the line. The second score for the scrubs came immediately after this. The ball was given to the second team on the University's 25-yard line and was carried over by Handy after a series of line plunges. This made the score 12 to 0, where it remained until H. Hardwick, in the last few minutes of play, went around right end and ran 50 yards through a broken field for a touchdown.
The University players were watched carefully by the coaches, were penalized many times for off-side play and holding, and were criticized in greater detail than at any previous practice this season. The result of this hard work should be seen in the Amherst game.
Several Players Kept Out of Scrimmage.
Brickley, Storer, O'Brien, Weatherhead, Dana, and Driscoll are still on the list of men not allowed in scrimmages, but all of these except Weatherhead and Dana should be back in the game in a day or two.
