Weld Crew Defeated by Worcester

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Worcester High School defeated the Weld Boat Club by three-quarters of a length in a one and one-half mile race in the Basin on Saturday afternoon.

The Weld crew got the better start and maintained a slight lead during the first half-mile, but then began to fall behind, owing to exceedingly poor steering. At Harvard Bridge Worcester had obtained a lead of about two lengths, which it held until near the finish, when the Weld crew gained rapidly, but could not overtake its opponents. Considering the roughness of the water, both crews rowed well, the Weld boat being somewhat steadier.
