Cornell won an easy victory over Princeton and Yale in the triangular race for eight-oar crews held on Carnegie Lake at Princeton Saturday. The Yale crew was distinctly outclassed by both of its rivals, finishing six lengths behind Princeton and nine lengths behind the winner. Cornell's time for the 1 3-4 miles was 9 minutes, 1 second; Princeton finished 12 seconds later, while Yale covered the course in 9 minutes, 47 seconds. Considering the fact that this is Princeton's first crew since 1884, the Tiger eight did very well to stick to Cornell so closely.
All three crews got away at the start on even terms. At the end of the first half-mile Cornell was leading Princeton by 3 1-2 seconds and Yale by about 5 seconds. At the mile mark Cornell, rowing 34 strokes to the minute, had increased its lead over Princeton to 5 seconds, and Yale had fallen 17 seconds behind Princeton. Both Princeton and Yale were pulling 36 to the minute. During the last half-mile Cornell raised its stroke a point and slightly increased its lead over the Tigers, although it did not appear to exert itself. Princeton's slide-work was poor, but the eight fought gamely throughout the race.
