Kelley Won Wells Cup

The Wells Cup race, a 440-yard handicap dash, held in the Stadium yesterday afternoon, was won by H. W. Kelley '11, in 50 seconds. Kelley won third in the Wells Cup race last year and in 1909 secured first place. In the race yesterday afternoon Kelley was the only man at scratch, the other 18 competitors receiving handicaps varying from 5 to 15 yards. S. Nichols '13 and B. M. Preble '12, each with 12 yards handicap, secured second and third places, respectively.

In the first 200 yards Kelley was slowed up somewhat by being obliged to pick his way through the large number of handicap men, but by the 250-yard mark had fought his way to the lead which he held for the rest of the race. Nichols ran a very steady race and was a close second at the finish. H. Jaques, Jr., '11, who had a handicap of 10 yards, and Preble, with 12 yards, fought it out for third, Preble finally winning by a few inches.
