Professor J. D. M. Ford '94, A.M., Ph.D., Smith Professor of the French and Spanish Languages, has recently been elected a corresponding member of the Spanish Royal Academy, or Real Academia Espanola at Madrid.

Professor Ford has written extensively on the Romance languages and is holder of the professorship once held by Henry W. Longfellow h.'59 and James Russell Lowell '38, both of whom were Professor Ford's predecessors as members of the Spanish Royal Academy. This academy corresponds in Spain to the Academic Francaise.
