WELD CREWS FIRST IN RACES YESTERDAY

WEATHER CONDITIONS FAVORABLE FOR GOOD ROWING.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Weld crews were winners in all three grades of the races held in the Basin yesterday afternoon. In the first division the first and second Weld boats took first and second places respectively, and in the second division the third Weld boat beat out the third Newell by about four feet. With the exception of a very light head wind, weather conditions were almost ideal.

In the first race, the first Weld, which is also the first Freshman boat, took the lead at the start and held it all through the course, rowing a splendid race until near the end, when it showed poor form. It nevertheless beat the second Weld by about three lengths. The second Weld rowed well, however, and was an easy second. The second and first Newell finished third and fourth respectively with a length of open water between them. The members of the winning crews of each grade received individual cups.

The orders of the three winning crews were as follows:

First Weld, or Freshman.--Stroke, S. K. Lothrop; 7, H. A. Murray; 6, B. Harwood; 5, W. B. Pirnie; 4, R. M. Baker; 3, H. H. Meyer; 2, G. M. Mac Vicar; bow, T. W. Storrow; cox., C. F. Ilsley.

Second Weld.--Stroke, A. K. Henry '14; 7, A. Walter '14; 6, R. G. Vickery '13; 5, E. B. Putnam '15; 4, D. J. Lynn '13; 3, E. M. Hudson '13; 2, F. Brooks '15; bow, F. J. Leviseur '13; cox., M. B. Phillips '15.

Third Weld.--Stroke, H. T. Duer '13; 7; E. S. Handy '15; 6, W. R. Dewey '14; 5, J. J. Putnam '12; 4, F. B. Berry '14; 3, J. M. Howe '12; 2, S. W. Skinner '15; bow, D. Hutchins '15; cox., E. C. Thayer '15.
