YESTERDAY'S PRACTICE

University Team Scored One Touchdown Against Freshmen.

The University and Freshman football teams were lined up against each other for the first time this season in the Stadium yesterday afternoon. During the twenty minutes of play, the University team scored one touchdown.

The Freshmen were unable to gain against the University forwards, not making first down once, while the University backfield gained consistently, chiefly by end runs. Captain fisher did not play, but watched from the side lines. He is taking no chances with his bruised knee.

At the beginning of the scrimmage the University team was given the ball in the middle of the field, and after five minutes of play, scored a touchdown on an end-around play by Smith from the 20-yard line.

The only chance the Freshmen had to score was after Logan had intercepted one of Potter's forward passes, and run 30 yards to the University 40-yard line. Brickley's drop kick fell short, however, and Potter punted out of danger.

The interference given the University backs was good, and the left side of the line showed improvement, Leslie and Jenckes breaking through and spoiling several plays; but he forward passing was very poor. Neither Potter nor Freedley made a successful one.

Before the scrimmage Coach Haughton gave the men a 45-minute blackboard talk, and there was also some departmental practice.

H. E. Kersberg '07, who played right guard on the 1906 team, is expected on the field this afternoon to join the coaching staff. He will pay particular attention to the development of the material for the guard positions.
