Soccer Team Defeated, 5 to 2

The University association football team lost the first game of its fall season to the United Shoe Machinery Company team on Saturday, by the score of 5 to 2. The game was hotly contested for two thirty-five minute halves, at the end of which the score stood 2 to 2. To decide the victory, two extra ten-minute periods were played in which the visitors scored three goals. The University team started off well, showing great promise but lack of experience. Of the forwards, Murdoch was by far the best, while Barron did good work at back. The Harvard goals were made by Murdoch and Needham.
