PHI BETA KAPPA DINNER

Will be Given Instead of Awarding Distinctions to Men Newly Elected.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The dinner of the Phi Beta Kappa Society will be held in the Trophy Room of the Union this evening at 6.45 o'clock. This dinner is being held as a reception to the thirty men who were chosen as members from the Senior and Junior classes about a month ago, and in a way will take the place of the annual award of distinctions, which was omitted this year.

President Lowell and President Eliot will preside, the latter until 8.30 o'clock and the former after that time. Among the speakers will be D. A. Ellis '94, J. W. Farley '99, C. H. Grandgent '83, Professor of Romance Languages, W. C. Greene '11, the second marshal of the society, and Professor S. Williston '82, Weld Professor of Law. Hitherto the reception of the newly elected members into the society has not been made the occasion of a dinner, but it is likely that the event hereafter will be celebrated with a dinner such as that of this evening.
