The following changes and additions have been made to the list of courses since the last official announcement was printed:
English E, special instruction in English for foreigners, practice in writing and speaking, class-room exercises, recitations and conferences -- Tuesdays, Thursdays at 12, and conference hours to be arranged. Mr. R. L. Lewis.
Course E is open to all foreign members of the University on payment of a special fee of $20. It is designed for those who are embarrassed in their College work by an inability to write and speak correctly and who are ambitious of attaining accuracy in expression.
Long and short themes are required as in English A, and there are in addition exercises in speaking and reading, with the purpose of correcting errors in idiom and pronunciation. Each student is allowed an unusual amount of conference time.
The course will not be counted as elective work for a degree, but students who take it will, if they show proficiency equal to that required in English A, be relieved from further prescription of English composition.
Owing to the absence of Professor F. G. Peabody during the first half-year, the following changes will be made in courses in Social Ethics:
Social Ethics 1 will be omitted in the first half-year, and will be given as a half-course in the second half-year, "The Ethics of Modern Industrialism," by Professor Peabody, Dr. McConnell, Dr. Ford, and Dr. Foerster, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 10.
Social Ethics 5, "The Moral Responsibilities of the Modern State," by Dr. McConnell, will be given in the first half-year, instead of in the second half-year on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 11.
Social Ethics 20a, "Seminary in Social Ethics," by Professor Peabody, will be omitted.
Social Ethics 20b. Professor Peabody will direct, during the second half-year, special researches of competent students in Social Ethics.
