MR. WELLS, ACTING DEAN

Edgar H. Wells '97 has been appointed acting dean of Harvard College for the next academic year, to serve in place of Dean Byron S. Hurlbut '89, who will be away from the University on leave of absence. Mr. Hurlbut has been Dean of the College since 1902 and has served continuously in the English Department since 1889, the year of his graduation.

Mr. Wells has resigned his position as secretary for appointments in order to accept the new office. For five years from 1901 he was an assistant and then instructor in English, and since 1903 he has been curator of modern English literature in the University. As assistant dean of the College, from 1905 to 1907, he acquired some knowledge of the office which he is to fill next year. For the past three years he has served as general secretary of the Alumni Association, and as editor of the Quinquennial Catalogue, and during the past year as secretary of the Library Council.
