Harvard Won 9 Matches in State Singles Championship at Longwood.

The first round and part of the second in the tennis singles championship of Massachusetts were played yesterday afternoon on the Longwood Cricket Club courts, Longwood. The remainder of the second round and the third round will be played at Longwood this afternoon at 3.30 o'clock. The matches, in which graduates and undergraduates of Harvard participated, resulted as follows: first round--N. W. Niles '09 defeated F. T. Ross, 6-1, 61; A. S. Dabney '10 defeated C. F. Johnson, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4; W. B. Fraser-Campbell '11 defeated R. C. Bray, by default; S. L. Beals defeated G. Sturgis '13, 6-4, 6-0; E. Porter defeated L. I. Grinnell '12, 5-7, 6-4, 8-6; A. Sweetser '11 defeated F. J. Sulloway '05, 4-6, 11-9, 9-7; H. Nickerson '11 defeated E. L. Beard, Jr., '10, by default; H. Taylor defeated J. R. Tunis '11, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5; J. Wheelwright '10 defeated T. B. Parker, 15-13, 7-5; W. H. Abbot defeated G. C. Adams '10, 6-3, 6-2. Second round--N. W. Niles '09 defeated G. S. Wilbar, 6-1, 6-0; A. S. Dabney '10 defeated P. Merriam 6-0, 6-3; H. Nickerson '11 defeated F. W. Martin, 6-4, 6-2.
