FRESHMEN LOST TO YALE

The Freshman baseball team was shut out in its annual game with the Yale freshmen at New Haven yesterday afternoon, the score being 6 to 0. Yale 1913 was distinctly the superior team both in batting and fielding. Their fielding game was errorless, while the Harvard Freshmen made five errors. These, however, had little to do with the scoring, as the runs and the errors did not occur in any case in the same inning.

In spite of the errors by the Freshmen, their opponents scored only once during the first seven innings, this run coming in the second inning as the result of clean hits. In the eighth inning Hardy allowed six hits which netted five runs for the opponents:

At no time during the game were the Harvard Freshmen close to scoring, as they did not get a runner beyond second base. In the seventh inning Tomes led off with a hit, stole second, but was put out on a double play by Bennett unassisted, who made a difficult catch of a hard line drive by Lowrey. The Yale freshmen were conspicuous for their good fielding.

Scott did exceptionally well for his team, both in pitching and batting. Throughout the game he was steadier than Hardy, and at all times seemed to have the game well in hand.
