1913 Third Crew the Winner

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The third Freshman crew defeated the second Middlesex eight by half a length over the half-mile course on the long stretch above the Stillman Infirmary yesterday afternoon. At the start the Freshmen got away first with a short high stroke, and for a short distance led by about a quarter of a length. But Middlesex, with a longer stroke, soon caught up and until near the end of the course both boats were even. At the finish the Freshmen spurted and crossed the line a half-length ahead.

During the race the Freshman eight displayed better form and rowed a higher stroke, while Middlesex used a long stroke and was a bit ragged, probably because they were not accustomed to rowing on such rough water.

The orders:

Third Freshman crew.--Stroke, Sargent; 7, Parmenter; 6, Henderson; 5, Frothingham; 4, Vickery; 3, Talbot; 2, Day; bow, Davis: cox., Bowne.

Middlesex crew.--Stroke, Harwood; 7, Chamberlain; 6, Emerson; 5, Morgan; 4, Meyer; 3, Davidson; 2, Mott; bow, Coolidge; cox., Munsell.
