THE MONTHLY'S PRIZES

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Among all the prizes to be found in the University Catalogue, there is none to be awarded simply for the best piece of English composition in prose or verse with no other qualification. The Monthly has offered two such prizes--one for the best poem submitted, the other for the best piece of prose composition. These conditions allow the budding author to express his thoughts in any form which they may take, so giving free rein to the writer's individuality. In this respect the Monthly's prizes have a new and distinct function, and should prove a real factor in stimulating undergraduate literary activity.
