NEW DISTINCTION DEGREE

In Mathematics and Education Announced at Faculty Meeting

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

At their last meeting, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences approved the establishment of a degree with distinction in mathematics and education, to be administered by a standing committee of three, with the following requirements:

In Mathematics and allied subjects, one course in descriptive geometry or surveying; three and one half courses in mathematics above Freshman courses and not including Mathematics 2; Physics C or its equivalent; and a course in astronomy.

If a student takes both descriptive geometry and surveying, the requirements in mathematics will be reduced to three courses.

In education, either a general introductory half-course, or a half-course in educational theory; a course in the history of education; and the choice between a course in school administration or one in elementary or in secondary education, both with practise teaching.

The committee reserves the power of exercising an independent judgement in each case, but it must always be satisfied that the program offered furnishes a sufficient basis for Distinction, and that the quality of the work justifies a recommendation.
