The two-mile scratch race held on the Stadium track yesterday afternoon was won by P. Newton '11; P. R. Withington '12 and F. D. Everett '11 finished second and third respectively.
This was the first trial since the beginning of spring practice, and nearly all the distance men of both the University and Freshman track teams were entered. The race was very close until the beginning of the last lap, when Newton, Withington, and Everett gradually drew away from the rest of the squad. On the last turn Newton sprinted and drew away from Withington and Everett. No time was given out.
Scratch 100-Yard Race Today.
There will be a scratch 100-yard race in the Stadium this afternoon at 4 o'clock. The race will be under the supervision of Coach Donovan and candidates for the University and Freshman track teams who have been practicing for the sprints during the season will be expected to report.
