1911 DANCE A GREAT SUCCESS

The fifth annual dance given by the Junior class in the Union last night proved a great success, surpassing such occasions of former years both in enthusiasm and attendance. In all, 450 persons were present at the dance, the guests beginning to arrive shortly after 8.30 o'clock. Informal dancing took place until 9 o'clock when the regular dances began. There were 12 dances before supper which was served from 12 until 1 o'clock and 12 more afterwards, the dancing lasting until 4 o'clock.

As at last year's event, no additional ornaments were placed in the Living Room, where the dancing was held, other than a large 1911 banner and two American flags. The receiving party stood in the south-west corner of the room. The lobby like the Living Room was not extensively decorated, the only ornaments being laurel festoons draped from the lights and potted palms here and there. The decorations in the rooms on the west wing and the Dining Room, in all of which boxes were located, were carefully planned. As a central lighting fixture in each room was a large gilt sunburst lighted with frosted and red electric bulbs. From these were festooned strings of greens or illuminated Japanese lanterns, while through the boxes, which were partitioned off by screens and palms, soft red or green lights were suffused. The boxes were made attractive with a profusion of sofas, chairs, pillows, and rugs, with potted plants and flowers in every corner.

Everywhere was to be seen evidence of the activity and good taste of the committee in charge and of the efforts of the Union employees.
