Smoking in Memorial Hall.

At a meeting of the University Dining Council yesterday a proposal to permit smoking in Memorial Hall was considered. After discussion it was voted to test the sentiment of members by a ballot expressed as follows:

"By authority of the University Dining Council the following questions are submitted to the vote of the Hall. The Council reserves the right to make its decision not only in the light of this vote, but also after an independent consideration of the question in all its bearings:

"Shall smoking be allowed in the Dining Hall under the following conditions:

"1. Smoking to be allowed only during dinner, and then only after 6.30 P. M.

"2. The privilege to be allowed for a trial period of two weeks.

"3. The question to be re-submitted to the Hall after two weeks' trial."

The ballots may be marked to indicate a vote of "Yes," "No," or "Indifferent." They will be distributed at dinner tonight and may be handed in until the close of the dinner period tomorrow night.

The question of permitting a two weeks' trial of smoking at dinner after 6.30 P. M: will be decided by the Council next Monday with the information afforded by this week's vote.
