Interclass Tennis Won by Freshmen

In the final round of the interclass tennis tournament played on Jarvis Field yesterday afternoon, the Freshmen defeated the Juniors, winning five out of the first seven matches played, making it unnecessary to play off the remaining two.

The Freshmen started well by winning four out of the six singles matches, and then E. H. Whitney '14 and E. H. Woods '14 defeated C. S. Cutting '12 and L. I. Grinnell '12 by great steadiness and superior team play.

The match between C. S. Cutting '12 and E. H. Whitney '14 was the closest of the day. Whitney won the first set comparatively easy at 6-3. The second set, however, went to Cutting, who showed an improvement in form, while Whitney was rather careless. In the third set, Whitney braced and ran out the set and match, allowing his opponent but three games.

The match between G. W. Wightman '12 and A. R. Suckley '14 was also close, but each man played very carefully, and although there were several interesting rallies, the match was, on the whole, slow and uninteresting.

The results of the matches were as follows:

Singles.--E. H. Whitney '14 defeated C. S. Cutting '12, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3; E. H. Woods '14 defeated L. I. Grinnell '12, 7-5, 6-3; G. B. Kayser '14 defeated A. M. Hyde '12, 6-3, 7-5; R. J. Eaton '12 defeated E. R. Hastings, Jr., '14, 3-6, 6-0, 6-4; O. Williams '14 defeated F. C. Gray '12, 6-4, 6-1; G. W. Wightman '12 defeated A. R. Suckley '14, 4-6, 6-4, 9-7.

Doubles.--E. H. Whitney '14 and E. H. Woods '14 defeated C. S. Cutting '12 and L. I. Grinnell '12, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.
