HARVARD, 4; TECHNOLOGY,1

The University hockey team won the first game of the schedule yesterday afternoon by defeating Massachusetts Institute of Technology 4 to 1 in the University rink in the Stadium. Owing to the absence of Hicks and Hornblower from the forward line, the University attack was very slow and did not follow back to support the defence. The latter, however, was strong, chiefly due to the excellent work of Huntington at point. Smart, who played goal in the first half, stopped many shots from a distance but let the puck pass between his skates for Technology's only score.

There was a noticeable lack of team-work among the forwards and very little passing, except in the middle of the first half when Gardner and Duncan carried the puck the length of the rink for the first goal. The two ends, Leslie and Wigglesworth failed to use the boards as well as their opponents and were often driven into the corners before passing.

In the first half Technology worked the puck down near the University goal time and again but were unable to score. After about six minutes of play Duncan received the puck from a scrimmage and with Gardner succeeded in rushing it the length of the rink for a goal. O'Hearn scored for Technology on a poor shot which slipped past Smart on the ice. About six minutes before the close of the half Wigglesworth scored the second goal on a pass from Duncan. The third goal for Harvard was made by Duncan on a pass from Leslie in front of the Technology goal just before time was called.

In the second half the University team seemed much weakened on the offence and play lagged. The forwards failed to keep in line, so that team-play was impossible. Leslie scored about the middle of the half, bringing the puck out from the corner for a low shoot.

No Class Hockey Teams.

The University hockey management has decided that there will be no class hockey series this season. All men who intended trying for their class teams will be given a chance either to organize teams in the scrub series which will start tomorrow or to sign as individuals to be assigned to vacancies by the University management. For this purpose any teams or individuals may sign the list posted in the CRIMSON office before 6 o'clock on Monday. After this date the entries will close and no more teams will be permitted to enter the series. The complete schedule will be posted Monday in the CRIMSON office.
