In a letter printed in the last issue of the Bulletin, Captain Little has suggested methods for improving our cross-country teams which are well worth the attention of the Athletic Committee. Of the measures suggested, that in regard to a coach is by far the most important, though the formation of a Freshman team and greater liberality in the award of insignia would undoubtedly help to stimulate interest in the sport.
To find a good coach for eight or ten weeks of the fall season might be difficult, but it is by no means impossible, and in view of the possibilities of development which are open in cross-country running, the engagement of such a coach would be well worth while. Both in the performances in competition and in the number of men engaged there is room for much improvement. The number of candidates for the University team has varied between twenty-five and seventy in the last eight years, and if a Freshman team were added enough runners could easily be brought out to make the services of a special trainer count heavily.
