New Boathouse for Union B. C.

The Union Boat Club of Boston opened its new clubhouse on Chestnut street, on the bank of the Charles River, by holding its annual dinner there on last Saturday evening. Among those present at the dinner were H. Bancroft '97, who acted as toastmaster, J. H. Parker '93, the architect of the building, Dr. B. Vincent '98, Professor I. N. Hollis h.'99, Captain Robert A. Bartlett, who accompanied Peary on his last expedition, and J. E. Waid '10.

The club was organized some fifty years ago, and it has always made rowing its chief activity: Many prominent oarsmen of the University are now members of the club and it is their wish that Harvard oarsmen join as soon as possible after graduation. A smoker will be given for last year's University crew sometime during the winter.

The new building is a structure of stone of ample size for the needs of the club, containing courts for squash, racquets and handball, and a large gymnasium, as well as locker rooms, boat shops, a library, and rooms for committee meetings.
