In the first of the series of interclass baseball games the Juniors defeated the Sophomores by an exciting ninth inning rally 3 to 2. The game was very close, and each team played fast ball. Everts, for the Juniors, pitched a very creditable game, striking out eight men and allowing but five scattered hits. At the beginning of the ninth inning the score stood 2 to 1 in favor of the Sophomores. Ferguson, who was appointed captain of the Juniors in place of R. W. Hall, who has been taken on the University squad, reached first on an error, and stole second, but the next two batters were easy outs. Long was put into the game to bat for Kenney and sent a clean single into right field, scoring Ferguson, while Leonard's hit brought Long across the plate a moment later. The Sophomores were put out in order. The playing of O'Connell was exceptionally good as he accepted fifteen chances with but one error.
