UNIVERSITY CREW WON RACE

Second Eight Defeated in Practice Contest by Over Seven Lengths.

New York, April 14, 1909.--In spite of the driving wind and rain this afternoon Columbia's two university crews were able to get out on the water for a short time. The crews rowed up and down past the boathouse several times, and tried a few racing starts. Coach Rice seemed to be fairly well pleased with the work. A temporary shake-up makes the final order for the race undecided. On Friday the crew expects to row over the course twice, and possibly will take a light paddle Saturday morning.
