The annual dinner of the Deutscher Verein will be held in the Trophy Room of the Union this evening at 6.30 o'clock. Professor Eugen Kuehnemann, the exchange professor from Germany, will be the guest of honor, and President Lowell will be present and will make an address. The dinner will be open only to members of the Verein and to a small number of invited guests.
This will be the first appearance of Mr. Lowell at an undergraduate function since he has become President. The dinner will also be the occasion of the last appearance of Professor Kuehnemann at such a celebration. In addition the following members of the Faculty have accepted: Professor J. A. Walz P.'95, Professor Hugo Muensterberg, Professor A. C. Coolidge '87, Assistant Professor R. B. Merriman '96, Professor A. B. Hart '80, Mr. C. M. Stearns, Mr. B. A. G. Fuller '00, all the Harvard exchange professors who have gone to Berlin, and all those members of the Faculty who hold German university degrees. Dr. Werner Hegemann will represent the University of Munich and Professor J. Blachstein will be the representative of the Institute of Technology. The graduates of the Verein will be represented by Mr. E. N. Perrin '82.
The guests on arriving at the Union will gather in the Assembly Room, where Professor Kuehnemann will hold a short reception. The dinner will have the character of a German supper, and typical German national dishes will be served. There will be German entertainments and a number of student songs will be sung, among them the new Verein song with words by H. Hagedorn '07 and music by A. M. Hurlin '06.
E. F. Hanfstaengl '09, president of the club, will act as toastmaster and will call for the following speeches:
"The German Department."--Professor J. A. Walz P.'95.
"German Life at Harvard."--Professor Hugo Muensterberg.
"German Interests at Harvard."--President Lowell.
"Germany and America."--Professor Eugen Kuehnemann.
The dinner will close with "Das Lied der Deutschen" sung by everyone present.
