The University baseball team will play Amherst on Soldiers Field this afternoon at 4 o'clock. With the exception of the Princeton game on Saturday this will be the last home game until June 2, unless there is no need of a third Princeton game, in which case the team will meet Exeter on May 26.
It has not yet been decided who will pitch. If the weather continues warm it will probably be Hartford, although it is not unlikely that Hicks will go in for a few innings. Harvey may resume his place in centre field. Batting still remains the greatest weakness of the team. The outfielders have not improved as much as the others in this respect and are about the weakest batters on the team. So far this season there has been but a single hit for more than one base. Except for heavy hitting, however, the team plays a good offensive game.
Amherst has not played many strong teams go far this season except on the southern trip, when among other games, it won from Annapolis, 4 to 0, but lost to Virginia, 4 to 5, and to Pennsylvania, 1 to 7. Since then Bowdoin and Bates have been defeated, while Vermont has won, 2 to 1. Last week Virginia won a return game from Amherst, by the score of 4 to 1. Of last year's Amherst team which defeated Harvard, 3 to 0, about five remain. Vernon or McInerney will be in the box for Amherst.
