Statement by Football Committee

The following communication was written to the Bulletin by the members of the Football Committee, concerning Coach Haughton's re-appointment:

The Football Committee desires to express to the graduates its great satisfaction that Mr. Haughton has agreed to coach the football team again. The Committee desires also that the graduates should know of the circumstances under which he has accepted the position of head coach.

Last year Mr. Haughton served without compensation, direct or indirect. The Football Committee was of course most anxious that Mr. Haughton should again coach, but to do so necessarily involves such a sacrifice of the time and energy which would otherwise be devoted to his own business advancement that he was long doubtful whether he could undertake it. So far as money compensation would offset this sacrifice, the Football Committee was willing to recommend that he be well paid if he so desired.

He has decided, however, to coach again without compensation, and we think that it is only just to him that all the graduates should realize the sacrifice he is making. We are glad that the present arrangement has proved possible, and we hope and expect that all graduates will appreciate the debt that they owe to Mr. Haughton. J. W. FARLEY, Chairman.   W. F. GARCELON.   G. R. FEARING, JR.   ANDREW MARSHALL.   FRANCIS H. BURR.   HAMILTON FISH,
