FIRST FIELDING PRACTICE

Morning Work for Battery Candidates.--Freshmen Report in Cage at 4.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Candidates for the fielding positions on the University baseball team were given their first practice yesterday afternoon in the Cage under the direction of Coaches Pieper and Mathewson and Captain Currier. Coach Mathewson spent a little time with each of the pitchers, and the fielders had light practice in stopping grounders.

All the available members of last year's team were present, with the exception of T. Briggs '09 and S. T. Hicks '10, who will not report until after the hockey season. H. McCall '09, last year's second baseman, has returned for the second half-year and was on hand yesterday, and F. H. Burr '09, who played first base part of the year on the 1906 nine, also joined the squad. The other "H" men on the squad are: Captain E. P. Currier '09, catcher; N. K. Hartford '09, pitcher; R. W. Hall '10, first base; J. W. Simons '09, short-stop; C. W. Harvey '09, E. T. Dana '09, R. H. Aronson '10, and C. L. Lanigan '10, outfielders.

The following battery candidates should report in the Cage this morning: 10-12, N. K. Hartford '09, C. L. Lanigan '10, S. T. Hicks '10, C. H. Palmer '09, R. C. Babson '12, R. P. Jordan '10; 12-1, R. G. McKay '11, J. A. Sweetser '11.

Today all candidates for the Freshman team will report in the Cage at 4 o'clock to Coach Moss. The 1912 battery candidates, however, will continue to practice with the University squad.
