WANDERERS DEFEATED, 8 TO 2

The University hockey team defeated the Wanderers of New York in the Stadium Saturday afternoon by the score of 8 to 2. During the first part of the game the play was slow and inaccurate shooting lost the University forwards many chances for goals. But with the score tied, 1 to 1, the University team started the second half with a rush and the Wanderers were kept on the defensive throughout. The game was rough at times, especially towards the end, many penalties resulting. G. Hornfeck was hurt just before the close of the first half and Garon took his place. For the University team, Gardner and Morgan, each of whom scored 3 goals, played a fast, steady game, while Du Fresne excelled for the Wanderers.

At the beginning of the first half, after Morgan and Hornblower had missed several shots, Hornfeck made the first score from a scrimmage in front of Washburn who had been drawn out from his goal. The play was even for a time, Du Fresne at coverpoint continually preventing the Harvard team from gaining a chance to score; but soon the University forwards carried the puck the length of the rink, Morgan scoring on a pass from Gardner from behind the goal. The half closed with the score tied.

McPhearson made the last goal for the Wanderers just after the opening of the second half. From then on they were completely outclassed by the fast concentrated attack of the University forwards. Gardner scored almost immediately, and Morgan made the next goal after he and Hornblower had carried the puck the length of the rink. Accurate shots by Hornblower and Morgan gave Gardner the chance to make the next score. From a scrimmage in front of the goal, Morgan shot the puck into the net, and goals by Ford, Hicks, and Gardner followed in quick succession. This ended the scoring. Gardner was replaced by Leslie just before the close of the second half.
