GARFIELD ON "EDUCATION"

Harry A. Garfield, A.B., LL.D., president of Williams College, will deliver a lecture on "Education" in the Living Room of the Union this evening at 8 o'clock. The lecture will be open only to members of the Union.

This will be the first of the series of six lectures on professions, which have been arranged by the Governing Board of the Union this year in pursuance of the original scheme so successfully introduced last year for the first time, namely, to secure men prominent in the principal professions to set forth to the undergraduates the nature and requirements of their respective professions. President Lowell will be present in order to introduce President Garfield.

President Garfield, the son of the late James A. Garfield, the twentieth president of the United States, was born at Hiram, Ohio, in the year 1863. He was graduated from Williams College in 1885, and studied at the Columbia Law School for a year. He then pursued his law studies abroad at Oxford College and at the Inns of Court, London. From 1888 to 1903 he practiced law at Cleveland in the firm of Garfield, Garfield, and Howe. He became professor of politics at Princeton in 1903 where he remained till he was elected president of Williams College in 1907.
