The track and field competitions held in the Baseball Cage and on Soldiers Field Saturday afternoon were very well attended. All the events except the 38-pound weight-throw for height were handicapped. As the weather was good both weight-throwing events were held on the field just outside the Cage.
The best all round performances of the afternoon were made by J. P. Long '11 and C. C. Little '10, the former taking one first and three second places, the latter, two firsts and one third. J. K. Lewis, Jr., '11 did well in the hurdle events, winning the low hurdles event and taking second place in the high hurdles.
Following is the summary of events:
Standing 38-pound weight-throw for height--Tie between C. C. Little '10 and L. Withington, Jr., '11 for first place; tie between A. Beane '11 and P. Withington '10 for third place.
Standing 38-pound weight-throw for distance--Won by P. Withington '10, handicap 1 ft.; second, B. D. Hodges '10, handicap 1 ft.; third, C. C. Little '10, handicap 1 ft.
16-pound shot-put--Won by P. H. Keays '13, handicap 4 ft.; second J. P. Long '11, handicap 5 ft.; third R. V. Moody '11, handicap 4 ft.
Running broad jump--Won by C. C. Lawrence, 2d., '10, scratch; tie for second place between J. P. Long '11, handicap 4 in., and P. Smith '11, handicap 2 in.
Running board jump--Won by C. C. Little '10, scratch; second, J. P. Long '11, scratch; third W. P. Dillingham '11, handicap 6 in.
Pole-vault--Won by L. C. Torrey '12, handicap 1 ft. 6 in.; second, B. N. Jones '12, handicap 1 ft. 6 in.; third, A. W. Dennis '11, handicap 3 in.
30-yard high hurdles--First heat won by J. P. Long '11, scratch; second, J. H. Noble '11, handicap 3 ft. Second heat won by J. K. Lewis, Jr., '11, scratch; second, W. P. Browne '11, handicap 3 ft. Final heat won by J. P. Long '11; second, J. K. Lewis, Jr., '11.
