Freshmen Given Long Scrimmage

The Freshman football team was put through its hardest practice of the year yesterday afternoon. After a half hour's demonstration of plays on the blackboard and a short signal drill, the first and second teams lined up against each other in a 30-minute scrimmage, divided into two 15-minute halves. Each team scored two touchdowns.

During the first half, the first team played listlessly, but in the second period, urged on by the coaches, it began to show signs of spirit, and, before the end of the scrimmage, had regained much of the dash and fight which it showed in the Exeter game last week. Lewis was moved from the backfield to end and did very well in his new position. He was down the field fast under kicks and usually got his man. When the second team had the ball he was used on the secondary defence. Goodale was back in his regular position at left guard and strengthened the left wing perceptibly. Cutler took Jones's place at centre, the latter going to the second squad, where his poor passing was noticeable. Lawson and Brown did well for the second, the former recovering a 20-yard forward pass on the first team's 3-yard line and making a touchdown from it, and the latter executing two perfect forward passes and making a quarterback run of 15 yards. The first team was at a disadvantage as it was kept on the defence most of the time, the second frequently being given the ball in different parts of the field to test its opponent's defence. Wendell scored both touchdowns for the first team, the first one after a series of line plays from the second's 35-yard line, and the second following an advance of two-thirds the length of the field on sensational end runs and a fake kick play by Graustein. Both the second team's scores were due to forward passes. Holbrook recovered one and ran 20 yards for a touchdown, and Lawson scored the other. The line-ups:
