The tennis tournament produced another surprise yesterday when A. S. Dabney '11 was put out of the running by J. Wheelwright '10 in the postponed match of the fifth round of the singles. Dabney took the first set 6-4, and led on the second 5-3, when Wheelwright broke through his serve, made it a deuce set, and finally won, 10-8. With the score standing 4 all in the third set, Wheelwright again won on Dabney's serve and took the set 6-4. The noticeable fact about the match was Wheelwright's steadiness in comparison with Dabney's brilliant but erratic playing.

In the semi-final round of the singles, Wheelwright again displayed good form, but was defeated by E. T. Dana 1G. Wheelwright had little trouble in winning the first set 6-2, but in the second, Dana steadied, winning 5 games to Wheelwright's one. Wheelwright then, by some clever work, took the next three games, before Dana was able to win his serve and end the set. In the final set Wheelwright seemed like a winner, with a score of 4-1, but Dana then displaying the best form and the most brilliant tennis of the whole tournament, took the next five games in succession.

In the other semi-final match of the singles, A. Sweetser '11 easily defeated R. W. Morgan '10, passing the latter at the net almost at will, 6-1, 6-3.

In the semi-finals of the doubles tournament neither of the matches was hotly contested. K. Brewster 2L. and H. H. Rolfe sL. easily defeated M. deS. Verdi 3L. and D. Brannan 3L., 6-2, 6-4. E. R. Brumley 3L. and J. Reynolds 3L. found it impossible to break into the net game of F. F. A. Person '11 and H. Nickerson '11, losing two love sets.

K. Brewster 2L. and H. H. Rolfe sL. will play F. F. A. Pearson '11 and H. Nickerson '11 on Jarvis Field at 2.30 o'clock this afternoon for the University doubles championship. The finals in the singles between E. T. Dana 1G. and A. Sweetser '11 will not be played until sometime at the first of the next week.
