The University team will play the second game of its schedule with Bowdoin in the Stadium this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Last year in the first game of the season Harvard barely won from Bowdoin by one touchdown, 5 to 0. This season Bowdoin has played one game, defeating Fort McKinley 18 to 0. This is the same team which held Bates to a no score tie game. Bowdoin seems to be a little stronger than Bates, though there are but four veterans on the team.
The University team will start the game with the same line-up as was used against Bates on Wednesday. The backfield, with the exception of O'Flaherty, are all "H" men. They have been working together in the last two days of practice and team-work has been developed rapidly. The line should show improvement as a result of Coach Kersberg's coaching. The ends, who played very well in the Bates game, will have to keep up to this standard as the substitutes are pushing them hard.
The teams will line-up as follows:
Referee--J. B. Pendleton, Bowdoin. Umpire--H. H. Hackett, West Point. Field-judge--E. Farmer, Dartmouth. Head-linesman--G. V. Brown, B. A. A. Time--20 and 15-minute halves.
Light Practice Yesterday.
The practice yesterday afternoon was very light. The first squad had no scrimmage, but the second team lined up against the second scrubs and in a fifteen-minute scrimmage scored two touchdowns. D. J. Hurley '05, captain of the team in 1904, came out to help coach the second. Coach Hurley played a prominent part in the scrimmage and is a valuable addition to the coaching staff.
Coach Daly had the backs and quarters out early for individual coaching, Coach Kersberg superintended the work of the line-men, and Coach Leary that of the ends. Corbett, Sprague, and Frothingham had a long practice in punting, Sprague sending off some exceptionally long balls. Signal practice was started with O'Flaherty at quarterback on the first squad, and Galatti running the substitutes. Later Coach Daly put Wigglesworth at quarterback on a third set with Rogers and E. V. Long as halfbacks. Long reported yesterday; he has been abroad and has just returned. N. H. Brock '12, a heavy guard, and F. H. Burrage '10, a back, also reported to the second squad. Rogers is being given a try-out at halfback and Sprague was used a little at end. After a short drill in formations and a few kick-offs the squad was sent in. Withington stayed out to practice kicking goals, O'Flaherty to try drop-kicking, and Sprague to do a little punting.
