The importance of winning the first game of the season is emphasized for the Freshman football team by the fact that today's game marks also the beginning of four years of class activity, in which athletics will have first place. Every class wishes to be represented by winning teams, able always to play the game a little better than their opponents. It is an ideal worth striving for, but it demands self-sacrifice from the class as individuals in the support of teams by which the class as a whole is represented.
In an athletic sense Freshman year is given to a trying-out process through which lies the surest way to later success. In return for the attention which is given in every sport by competent coaches, candidates for the teams are expected to do their part by reporting regularly and by keeping themselves in good physical condition and in right relations with the College Office.
