New Haven, Conn., October 14, 1909.--A twenty-five minute scrimmage between the university and second teams was held today. Captain Coy did the punting for the second team but did not play in the scrimmage. Francis was tried out at halfback, and Brooks at end. Cooney played centre on the university team. Merritt, quarterback on the second, ran his team well, and showed excellent judgment in his choice of plays. Logan, Deming, Philbin and Hyde did not enter the scrimmage. The regular coaching staff was augmented by McCormick, Stillman and Glass.
