LONG SCRIMMAGE YESTERDAY

Several Changes in Line-up of University Team.--Second Eleven Strong.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Yesterday afternoon numerous changes were made in the line-up of the University football team. P. Withington, who has been playing regular centre, was moved to his last year's position at guard; Rogers, who has been in the backfield squad, was given a trial at end, his former position; and Perkins was moved to centre to take Withington's place. Captain Fish, Corbett, and P. D. Smith were all on the field but did not take part in the scrimmage. Hooper and L. Withington played the tackle positions in the absence of the regulars, Fish and McKay.

There was a long scrimmage against the second team, the first half lasting only five minutes, but the second nearly half an hour. The first team scored once, Leslie picking up a fumble on the second's 40-yard line and running for a touchdown. The second team kicked off to the first which carried the ball in short rushes to the second team's 15-yard line, before the first period ended.

The second team showed up strongly, the new men in the line-up making the defence much stronger. M. D. Robinson '09, who joined the coaching staff yesterday, played right tackle for the second team on the defence. His playing and that of Coach Blagden, who got into the scrimmage now and then, greatly assisted the second team. Sprague did the punting for the second team, out-punting Minot and Pierce considerably. The first team was ragged, showing the effects of the numerous changes in the line-up. Both the Withingtons played a strong defensive game.

This afternoon the University team will line up for a short scrimmage with the Freshman team.

The teams lined up as follows: FIRST TEAM.  SECOND TEAM. Houston, Rogers, Huntington, l.e.  r.e., Whitney, Clifford Hooper, Bush, l.t.  r.t., Garrett, Coach Robinson P. Beginning on Friday afternoon--the University team will have secret practice every day. During this practice no one, except track men dressed in running clothes, will be allowed on the field. These men may stay only as long as they have work assigned them by the coaches.
