REGISTRATION BY STATES.

The registration by states further proves that the decrease in the enrolment figures is due largely to a falling off in the representation from the New England States. The enrolment from Massachusetts is the lowest it has been in five years and there has been a general decrease from all the New England states, with slight ups and downs, in the last five years. It is difficult to draw any accurate conclusions from the figures of the states with smaller representations. Comparing similar statistics during the period from 1904 to 1908, there has been a gradual increase in California and Washington on the Coast and a corresponding increase in the Middle Western states of Iowa, Minnesota, and Indiana. New York and Illinois have decreased during this period while Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Ohio have been fairly uniform. In the South, Georgia and Tennessee have increased steadily but the general representation from this section is about the same as five years ago.
