Harvard Crew Quarters, Red Top, Conn. June 8, 1908.--The University and Freshman crew squads arrived here about 6 o'clock this afternoon and went at once for a short row on the Thames. No attempts at speed were made, the work being primarily to limber up the men after their trip from Cambridge. The four crews rowed about a mile down stream and back in easy scratches with Coach Wray accompanying them in his single scull.
A change was made in the order of the University four-oar, E. Cutler and Morgan changing places, but the boat did not travel well and there was an apparent break in the stroke at No.2. Other changes will probably be made in this crew before the races.
The crews were accompanied by Proctors Cowes and Reed, Dr. W. E. Ladd '02, and R. Reece '11 and A. Breen '11 as substitutes for the Freshman squad, and G. G. Bacon '08 and S. A. Fahnestock '08 as substitutes for the University squad.
The orders of the crews follow:
University eight--Stroke, Sargent; 7, Richardson; 6, Bacon; 5, Waid; 4, Lunt; 3, Severance; 2, Fish; bow, Faulkner; cox., Blagden.
University four-oar--Stroke, Cutler; 3, Withington; 2, Morgan; bow, Ellis; cox., King.
Freshman eight--Stroke, Cutler; 7, Hooper; 6, Eaton; 5, Withington; 4, Waite; 3, Whitney; 2, Forster; bow, Shillito; cox., Fales.
Freshman four-oar--Stroke, Richardson; 3, Jowett; 2, Smith; bow, Oveson; cox., Coach Gill.
