Whether or not a crippled Harvard eight can defeat the best Yale crew of recent years is a grave question. Reports from Red Top indicate that the loss to the boat has not demoralized the eight by any means, and in the time trial on Wednesday Cutler's work at number two was very good. No one can estimate just how much the change has weakened the boat, but those of us who have no hopes for a victory are disregarding a very important consideration--Captain Richardson's indomitable courage and the unbounded respect in which he is held by his men. Those factors have won races before and they can win again. We wish him every possible success in the last race of his career.
