SPRING FOOTBALL BEGINS

On Soldiers Field at 4.30.--Objects Outlined by Coach and Captain.

By F. H. Burr

Spring practice for the University football team begins on Soldiers Field this afternoon at 4.30 o'clock and will continue for three weeks. The men will be coached in the elements of the game, in kicking, and in experimental formations. Besides the head coach, C. D. Daly '01, N. L. Hall '07 and other coaches will be on the field. Candidates who have football clothes are asked to bring them, but clothes will be provided for those who have none. All are expected to come early to avoid delay in securing lockers.

The principal object of this practice are: (1) To save time in the fall by teaching the men certain fundamentals and rules now; (2) To give the captains and coaches a chance to know the men; (3) To try certain experiments with formations. Therefore it is absolutely essential that all candidates for the team, who are not prevented by other sports, should come out regularly as if it were in the fall season.
