MIDDLETOWN, CONN., March 6, 1908.--The University basketball team was defeated by Wesleyan last evening at Middletown by a score of 33 to 11 in a clean, fast game.
Harvard was weakened by the loss of Captain Brooks, who was suddenly taken ill. His place was filled by Almy. Wesleyan used splendid team-work and carried and passed accurately. At the end of the first half, Wesleyan was only a few points ahead, but at the beginning of the second, two fresh men were put in; Taylor at right forward, and Kidder at left guard, and the University team was scored on again and again.
For Harvard Allen and Currie played a good game, and for Wesleyan, Soule and White excelled. The spectacular shooting of Soule was a feature.
The summary: Score--Wesleyan, 33; Harvard 11. Baskets from the floor--Grant 2, Hayward 1, White 2, Soule 4, Closson 2, Taylor 3, Kidder 1, Allen 3, Almy 1. Baskets on fouls--White 2, Closson 1, Allen 2, Currie 1. Referee--P. J. Hehir. Timekeepers--P. B. Francis, Harvard; Beaton, Wesleyan.
