Next Wednesday being the three-hundredth anniversary of Milton's birth, the following observances will be held in Cambridge and elsewhere:
Professor W. A. Neilson will leave today for the University of Wisconsin, where he will lecture on "The Life of Milton" on Wednesday. On Friday he will speak at the University of Cincinnati, and on Saturday at Oberlin College, on the same subject.
The anniversary will be observed in Cambridge by a lecture by the Rev. George A. Gordon in Sanders Theatre tomorrow at 8 o'clock. The subject of this lecture, which will be open to the public, will be "John Milton: His Life and Works."
A collection of original and other early editions of Milton's writings, with some of the more important later editions, will be placed on exhibition in the Treasure Room of the College Library on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week. The exhibition will be open to members of the University in the morning of each day from 10 to 1 o'clock, and to the public in the afternoons from 3 to 5.30 o'clock.
The Boston Public Library has arranged an exhibition of books, prints and manuscripts relating to the life and work of the poet. There are also several portraits, and facsimiles of documents and autographs in Milton's works, received from the British Museum. The collection is now on exhibition in the fine arts department on the third floor of the library, and will remain open daily throughout December, from 9 A. M. to 10 P.M.
