DRAMATIC CLUB PERFORMANCE.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

When the Dramatic Club was organized last spring, it brought to the attention of a number of people the fact that at most of the other universities dramatic clubs had been in existence for a good many years while at Harvard there was no such organization based exclusively on dramatics. There were the Elizabethan revivals of the Delta Upsilon to be sure, the productions of the Cercle Francais and an annual play by the Deutscher Verein, not to mention a comic opera here and there to provide a lighter form of entertainment; but in all this, there was however, not a single organization which professed as its only excuse for existence a fundamental interest in the drama. Accordingly, the new club was formed and immediately took a step in advance of other university dramatic clubs by starting a society in which the plays shall not only be acted but also written by students in the University.

It was the natural result of the work and ambitions of those undergraduates who had devoted their time to the study of the English drama and playwrighting that the club should be formed. There was enough interest in the drama and there was plenty of talent being carefully guided in English 47 to warrant such an organization. The other element needed was inspiration and encouragement to men of ability throughout the University and it was essential that this enthusiasm should be given organized expression.

The founders of the club have not been disappointed in their predictions and the production which has been prepared for tonight's performance has been taken up with enthusiasm. A large cast has been at work and the whole production is most creditable to the club.
