The Sophomores won the interclass tennis championship yesterday afternoon by defeating the Seniors in two close matches, which, added to their three victories of Thursday, make the necessary best five out of nine. The score in matches stands 5 to 3, one contest not being played, since it was immaterial to the final result.
The Sophomores victory was generally unexpected and came only after the closest and most interesting games, three sets being played in every match. The second set in the singles between Niles and Sweetser was played over yesterday and won by the former 6-4, making the match 6-2, 9-9, 6-4, in favor of Niles. The members of the victorious team will receive silver cups.
Yesterday's results follow: Singles--G. W. Chase '11 defeated R. H. Eggleston, Jr., '09, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3; N. W. Niles '09 defeated A. Sweetser '11, 6-2, 9-9, 6-4. Doubles--E. M. Ach '11 and G. W. Chase '11 defeated R. H. Eggleston '09 and E. M. B. Roche '09, 2-6, 6-3, 8-6.
